Peaky blinders will no longer continue with Barry Keoghan for their new sequel in the works.
While the upcoming series, created by Steven Knight, is set approximately ten years after the events of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Manthe franchise has decided to choose another actor to play Duke Shelby, Tommy Shelby’s eldest son.
The franchise has now announced that Jamie Bell will step into the shoes of an adult Duke, replacing Keoghan, who played the teenage Duke.
The older Duke has described the character as “wiser, more ambitious and certainly more dangerous,” according to the synopsis. The new installment is set against the backdrop of the post-World War II recovery, focusing on the race to rebuild Birmingham as old rivalries and ambitions resurface.
“I am very happy that we are announcing a new era Peaky blindersmoving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 1950s,” Knight said in a statement.
The creator continued, “We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell take on the role of Tommy Shelby’s eldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also lead the cast.”
Charlie Heaton will also lead the cast, along with Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch and Lucy Karczewski.
The original series ended in April 2022 after six seasons and 36 episodes. It even earned a BAFTA for best drama series.
Filming for the new series is reportedly underway in Birmingham, although no release date has been announced yet.
