Pete Davidson pays tribute to Eddie Murphy for helping him through ‘dark’ times

Pete Davidson discovered the power of comedy by watching Eddie Murphy as a youth, which ultimately shaped his own career.

The 31-year-old actor and comedian was featured in Murphy’s new documentary, Being Eddyand honored the comedy legend’s legacy with a sentimental anecdote from his life.

The Saturday evening live alum shared that Murphy’s stand-up special, Delirioushelped him cope after his father was killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks.

“Immediately, [I heard]“F— this, suck this, f— you,” and my mom goes, “Wow, what did you get?” I was dying of laughter. She said, “You can’t watch this!” And I was like, ‘Please, I’m laughing,'” Davidson said.

The father-to-be continued, “I think she saw that I was having a good time at a time when I really wasn’t, and she said, ‘You can watch this stuff as long as you don’t repeat it or tell anyone, and it was kind of like a little agreement that we made.”
