Reese Witherspoon gets real about women’s financial independence

Reese Witherspoon recently highlighted the importance of financial independence for women.

The Legally blonde actress reveals how her past trauma helped her help women understand financial independence in an exclusive sneak peek of Tuesday’s episode Aspire with Emma Grede podcast.

Reese recalls that her mother “went through some tough things in a marriage with financial problems, and so did my grandmother.”

“Not in marriage, but in a family structure. And I have a history of not taking care of women financially,” she tells the host.

Looking back on her past experiences, the Sweet Home Alabama actress says lack of finances scars her so deeply.

“And that’s why I’m passionate about helping women understand and demystify this,” says Reese.

Elsewhere in the interview The Morning Show star also discusses the best money advice she’s received in her life.

“Don’t go into debt. Do everything you can to not get into debt and pay off those credit cards, or don’t spend the money like it’s yours. It’s not yours, girlfriend,” the Academy Award-winning actress explains.

Meanwhile, Reese also shares that people should never “let someone with money control you.”

“Someone says, ‘I’ll take care of it and I’ll take care of you and I’ll take care of this.’ That person could leave. That person can hurt you,” she notes.

However, the actress adds, “You always keep your job. Your job is your life insurance. My mother always said that to me.”
