Rob Reiner admitted guilt for not listening to his son Nick

Rob Reiner about son Nick’s rehab: ‘I should have listened to him’

Nick, one of Rob Reiner’s sons, had a troubled past with addictions. His celebrity parents were desperate in their words as they trusted the experts over their son when he told them rehab wasn’t working for him.

These conversations took place in public ten years ago when Rob and Nick were working on the 2015 semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie.

The film was inspired by the couple’s son – who served as a writer – his struggles with drug addiction and his tensions with his parents.

While engaging in self-reflection, Rob admitted at the TIFF premiere in 2015, “When Nick told us it wasn’t working for him, we didn’t want to listen. We were desperate, and because people had degrees on the wall, we listened to them when we should have listened to our son.”

In a separate interview at the time, he also acknowledged that the filming process repaired their bond, telling Build Series, “I mean, you know, we got into trouble. [but] … the whole process has made me understand him a lot better, and I think it’s made me a better father, and hopefully it has.”

Fast forward to now: a tragedy has occurred. Rob and Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles home, and police arrested their son Nick in connection with their murder.
