Robert Irwin has never felt “poet” with his father.
For his Tango version on the episode of September 23 of Dancing with the starsRobert shared that his father’s legacy continues to inspire him every day.
“Not a day goes by where someone doesn’t share how Dad inspired them,” he said. “It means everything for me, because every year I live, I actually feel closer to my father.”
The 21-year-old conservationist and his partner Witney Carson made an impression on the jury members with their tango-routine, in which Bruno Tonioli Robert said that he was “leading man-mode”, but needed no gimmicks to win the Mirrorball trophy.
“This level of competition is insane. Your charisma is outside the charts,” Carrie Ann Inaba added. Derek Hough used one word to describe the competition, “Cikey”, and earned him a high-five from Robert.
The son of the late Steve Irwin has previously shared that he thinks his deceased father would be “happy” to see him on Dancing With The Stars.
“He was the kind of person he just never stopped,” said Robert. “He was passionate about everything he did. And he loved life when he just lived on the verge and gave it 100. And that is what this experience is.”
Despite the loss of his father at a young age, Robert feels a strong bond with him. “While I start reaching the same kind of milestones that he did as a young guy who grew up, yes, I feel closer to him in a certain way,” he said.
“I really do it. My father is like a super hero figure. Like this ubiquitous, he is just a superhero for me. And I am so grateful for that, because although I didn’t have much time with my father, I have a person who is an example of everything I want to be in life.”
