Stranger things documentary director denied the claim that series creators Ross and Matt Duffer used AI to write the final installment.
When the documentary One Last Adventure: Making Stranger Things 5 debuted on Netflix, many fans claimed to have seen ChatGPT open on a computer.
As Ross and Matt revealed how they structured their ideas for the latest sequel to the hit series, the documentary showed a Google Doc open on their laptops.
Now director Martina Radwan denied all speculations and accusations about the use of AI.
“I mean, are we even sure they had ChatGPT open?” Martina said THR on Wednesday.
The director further told the channel that it was “impossible” to use an AI tool to write such a complex show with so many characters and storylines.
‘Well, there’s a lot of talk [social media users] are like, “We don’t really know, but we’re assuming,” Martina said. “But for me it’s like this: Doesn’t everyone have it open, just to do some quick research?”
“How can you possibly write a storyline with 19 characters and use ChatGPT, I don’t even understand it,” she continued.
Martina added that she “did not witness any unethical use of generative AI in the writers’ room.”
“Again, first of all, no one actually proved it was open,” she said.
For those unfamiliar, the One Last Adventure: Making Stranger Things 5 documentary was released on Netflix on Monday, January 12.
