Ryan Sutter has finally learned how to deal with his persistent Lyme disease.
The former ‘Bachelorette’ star, who was diagnosed with a tick-borne infection in 2020, revealed he is now ‘in a pretty good place’.
In 2022, Ryan confessed that he was struggling with the condition, writing on his social media: “I have been made aware of conditions I never knew existed and suffering in numbers that don’t seem possible.”
Now, he told the outlet that the majority of his days are “good,” with “a few bad days thrown in,” which he’s “learned a little bit about how to deal with it.”
“If I pay close enough attention, I can sense the beginning of things coming, and then I make sure I don’t overdo it or overextend myself, or make sure I’m hydrated and take all the supplements I should be taking and all that kind of stuff. I just pay more attention.”
At one point he felt so exhausted and drained that he could understand why people with long-term illnesses might eventually take their own lives.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever sympathized with suicide,” he explained.
“I was never like, ‘I have to kill myself,’ but I understood that [chronically ill] people reach a level of frustration where they feel like they will feel this way for the rest of their lives, or that they will be a burden to everyone around them.”
However, after the intense health problems, he has been gentle with himself.
“As long as I can keep going, move forward, I feel like that keeps it at bay. But compared to when I was first diagnosed, it’s like night and day. So when I refer back to that time, I always think, I’ll do this a hundred times out of a hundred. It’s much better than what it used to be.”
