Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez didn’t want to go the usual route for their wedding gifts, so they came up with a thoughtful idea for their celebrity guests.
The 33-year-old singer and actress shared that as she celebrated her big day, she wanted to honor the principles closest to her heart, and what better way to reflect those sentiments in the gifts they received?
So the Lose yourself in loving me hitmaker and the music producer, 37, asked their guests to make donations to the Rare Impact Fund, which works to make mental health care accessible and common.
The Rare founder spoke about the idea of incorporating her passion project into the ceremony at the third annual celebration event, saying, “I think it’s not so much that Rare was a part of it, it’s just so much that we wanted – I wanted – to share a little piece of happiness with my community,” in conversation with People magazine.
“They changed my life, so that was my way of doing that,” says the Only murders in the building star continued.
Gomez, who founded the nonprofit organization five years ago, has raised more than $20 million to date to help people around the world with mental health care.
The Disney alum told the outlet that she considers the fund the project she is “most proud of.” “I am honored and happy that it has come this far,” she added.
At her star-studded wedding on September 27, Gomez paid tribute to Pinterest, one of the “top sponsors” behind her company, telling guests, “Hey, they helped me with my wedding.”
