Selena Gomez talks about how her fears sometimes overshadow the happiest moments in her life.
The Only murders in the building star, who has long been an advocate for mental health, recently shared how even her marriage to music producer Benny Blanco brought on unexpected emotions.
“I got married and then I cried,” Selena revealed during Fortune‘s Most Powerful Women conference on October 15. “Because I thought, ‘I’m going to die the next day.'”
The 33-year-old explained that when something positive happens, she often worries that something bad could follow.
“So instead of being there and saying, ‘Okay, wow, we did something great,’ which I do, but I always think, ‘Okay, but this could all go away tomorrow. So how can I make sure that doesn’t happen?'” Selena said.
“And I can just get caught up in that, instead of enjoying things. And I would say that’s my biggest conflict sometimes, when wonderful things happen.”
Selena and Benny got married on September 27 in California, surrounded by family and close friends. Just days later, she shared a heartfelt message to her fans about entering this new chapter of her life.
“As I step into one of the most special seasons of my life, I can’t help but think of you, my incredible friends who have been with me through every twist, turn and chapter,” she wrote on Instagram on October 2.
“From my first days on screen, to the songs we sang together, and now to this new beginning, your love and support have meant more to me than I could ever truly put into words.”
Looking ahead, the Rare Beauty founder has expressed hope that more milestones will come, including starting a family with Benny, despite previously saying she wouldn’t be able to get pregnant due to health reasons.
Meanwhile, Hailey Bieber also recently addressed the ongoing rumors of tension between her and Selena.
Speak with The Wall Street Journalthe 28-year-old model said she doesn’t like being compared to other celebrities, especially Justin Bieber’s ex.
When asked about fans comparing her beauty line, Rhode, to Selena’s Rare Beauty, Hailey said she finds it frustrating “competing against other people.”
“I didn’t ask for that,” she explained.
Hailey added that people often create false stories about her life.
“If people want to see you a certain way and have made up a story about you in their heads, it’s not up to you to change that,” she said.
Despite years of speculation surrounding the two women, Hailey made it clear that she believes there is room for everyone in the beauty world.
“I don’t feel competitive with people I’m not inspired by,” she added.
Both Selena and Hailey continue to focus on their personal growth and careers, showing that even under constant public scrutiny, there is still room for positivity, individuality and mutual respect.
