Shakira opened up about the hardships she faced following her split from former football star Gerard Pique.
The Waka Waka hitmaker confessed that her divorce from the athlete was ‘the darkest moment’ in her life as it led to ‘the dissolution of [their] family,” in an interview with The Times of London.
However, Shakira has only good wishes for the father of her children.
She told the outlet, “I will always have that gratitude in my heart for the father of my children and [for] that made me the mother I am today.”
It is pertinent to mention that Shakira shares two sons, Milan and Sasha, with former partner Gerard Piqué, with whom she was in a relationship from 2010 to 2022.
The 49-year-old Grammy-winning singer opened up about the emotional aftermath of her breakup: “I saw the dissolution of my family, the family I had dreamed of keeping forever. I have experienced so much pain, but it may have made me a wiser person in some unforeseen way — or at least stronger.”
The mother of two noted that the difficult time made her “stronger.”
Shakira explained, “They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and that’s true. It’s amazing to learn that humans have a resilience that we can call on at any time in our lives.
The Whenever, wherever artist went on to talk about how the difficult time changed her outlook on life.
“Sometimes through hardship and through pain we discover how strong we can be. Suffering sometimes makes you a better person, makes you appreciate friends and support,” she added.
Shakira is not currently in a relationship with anyone as she told the newspaper that her plate is quite full.
“Oh no, no romance for me for a while,” Shakira insisted, adding, “There’s no room or time in my life for that… My kids are my priority, and my career. Strangely enough, I’m in love with my career like I’ve never been in my life. I’m also enjoying my alone time.”
For those unfamiliar, Shakira briefly dated Jimmy Butler and Lucien Laviscount after her divorce from Piqué.
