Shia LaBeouf sent to rehab for ‘not taking alcohol addiction seriously’

Shia LaBeouf has been ordered to a rehabilitation center.

The Transformers actor was also denied his request to travel to Rome for his father’s baptism in March.

According to a report from the associated press, LaBeouf was told that he “didn’t seem to take his alcohol addiction seriously”, with Orleans Criminal Court Judge Simone Levine questioning whether he could “manage his alcohol”.

The actor was arrested on two counts in New Orleans during the city’s Mardi Gras festivities, with police claiming he caused a “disturbance” and became increasingly “aggressive” before getting involved in a fight during which he punched at least two people and shouted homophobic slurs.

However, the judge told LaBeouf that he did not appear to be taking his situation seriously.

“This court does not believe it understands the seriousness of these allegations,” Levine said.

She added that the actor’s alleged behavior threatened “the safety of this larger community, especially as it relates to a marginalized (LBGTQ+) community that has experienced so much terror.”

While LaBeouf agreed to immediately undergo a drug and alcohol screening and post $100,000 bond, his attorney argued that intoxication should not justify punishment.

“Frankly,” LaBeouf’s attorney Sarah Chervinsky told the judge, “Being drunk on Mardi Gras is not a crime.”

However, AP Shia LaBeouf reportedly remained tight-lipped that day: “No, I won’t say a word,” he told reporters after submitting to the ordered substance test. “God bless you, leave me alone.”
