Shirley MacLaine is still young at heart.
On Wednesday, December 3, the 91-year-old legendary American actress and author appeared at the first-ever Dance Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Gloria Kaufmann Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles.
At the first awards ceremony, MacLaine was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, which will later be named the Dance Hall of Fame Shirley MacLaine Lifetime Achievement Award.
In her speech, she expressed herself by saying, “Getting an award for dancing is the most important recognition I can get. I mean that. By the way, this is beautiful, heavy and beautiful.”
The Oscar-winning star recalled: “My mother took me to dance class when I was three because I had weak ankles and I fell in love with it. But here’s what it also entailed: discipline, a love of music, a sense of cooperation with other people, being on time.”
“And from that day on, I went to class every day until I was 60. I would have to say that dance, what I learned from being a part of it, is the reason I’m still here,” she joked.
It is pertinent to mention that Shirley MacLaine made a rare appearance at the ceremony after being spotted during two unexpected public outings in Malibu, California, a place she called her hometown.
