Karachi: A 24-year-old man died of docking fever in the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital, which marks the first death-related death of the province from 2025.
According to hospital officials, the patient had stood a fan for the past two days and suffered from a critical low number of platelets of only 32,000. A healthy individual usually has between 150,000 and 450,000 platelets, which emphasizes the seriousness of the case.
This is the first confirmed dengue in Sindh in 2025, because the province continues to report relatively low numbers of cases compared to previous years.
So far, this year, 295 Dengue cases have been included in Sindh. Of these, 260 cases – almost 90% – have only been reported in Karachi, making the city the epicenter of docking fever in the province.
During the month of June 2025, Karachi Division registered 32 new dengue cases. The Divisions of Hyderabad and Shaheed Benazirabad, on the other hand, have not reported new things in the same month. Mirpurkhas and Sukur Divisions each reported only one case in June.
When looking at the overall distribution of cases in Sindh for the year 2025 so far, Karachi leads with 260 infections reported. Hyderabad Division reported a total of 30 cases this year, followed by Mirpurkhas with 2 cases and Sukkur also with 2 cases. The Shaheed Benazirabad Division has only reported 1 case so far.
Although the current figures are carefully, they represent a significant decrease in the knuckle -fever activity compared to the previous four years.
In 2024, Sindh reported a total of 2,704 Dengue cases. There were 2,880 confirmed cases in 2023. The figures were even higher in 2022, with a record 23,274 cases reported in the province – the highest figure in recent years. For comparison: 2021 saw 6,739 cases, while 2020 registered 4,318 cases.
The dramatic reduction of the reported dengue cases this year suggests that prevention and control measures can have a positive effect, although health experts warn that vigilance should be maintained during the current monsoon season, when mosquitoes tend to spin.
The health authorities continue to encourage residents to take precautions, including eliminating standing water, the use of mosquito -resistant agents and the search for immediate medical attention in the case of symptoms such as high fever, severe headache and body pain.
