Eddie Murphy has buried the hatchet over his feud with Saturday evening live after the show mocked his career, and he’s ready to talk about it.
The 64-year-old actor and comedian reflected on the show’s sense of great betrayal during his new documentary. Being Eddy.
Murphy, who was a regular cast member on the show from 1980 to 1984, said, “It’s like your alma mater shooting at you. About my career, not how funny I was. Called me a shooting star,” in the film, which premiered on Wednesday, November 12.
The SNL alum shared that jokes about former cast members were always “shot down” during his time on the late-night show, and yet when David Spade held up a photo of Murphy and told the audience, “Look kids, it’s a shooting star.” Make a wish,” it went into the air.
Murphy noted that after watching the segment, “I wasn’t like, f… David Spade, I was like, f… SNL. Is that how you all think about me? Oh, you dirty mother fuckers. And that’s why I haven’t gone back in years.”

Over time, Murphy moved on from the pain and made amends with Spade. He returned to host the show in December 2019 and reprized his favorite characters.
During this year’s 50th anniversary special, the comedian revisited the show and made it clear that there is no bad blood anymore.
