Marizanne Kapp and Tazmin British have beaten undefeated centuries to send South Africa to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the ODI series of the Women’s Odi series in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Tuesday.
The resilient 121 of Sidra Amin could not prevent the defeat.
The Proteas women have comfortably hit the winning points for the loss of only two wickets and 10 balls to save, thanks to a monumental 216-run partnership for the third Wicket between Centurions Kapp and British.
However, the visitors had a contrasting start of the chase when Sadia Iqbal cleared their captain, Laura Wolvaart (four), at the third delivery of the second one with only five points on the board.
After the early battle, Sune Luus joined British for a short partnership of 38 run for the second Wicket until the victim of Rameen Shamim in the 10th. She scored 30 out of 35 deliveries using seven four.
Her resignation followed a match-definating partnership when Kapp and British Packistani Bowlers surpassed to guide South Africa to an impressive victory.
Kapp remained the top scorer for the Proteas women with an unbeaten 121 out of 128 deliveries, strewn with 13 four and two sixes, while British did not make 121 balls, with nine limits.
For Pakistan, Sadia and Rameen could take a wicket each.
Pakistan chose to hit first and accumulated 255/4 in their assigned 50 overs, thanks to Sidra’s anchoring century.
The hosts started a gloomy start of their innings when they lost the opening fittings Shawaal Zulfiqar (zero) in the second with only three runs on the board.
After the early setback, Sidra came to Muneeba in the middle and the duo dominated the Proteas Bowlers to add a record setting 147-run partnership for the second Wicket to bring Pakistan into a comfortable position.
Ayabonga Khaka eventually broke the monumental standard in the 31st when she held Muneeba LBW, who ran back after scoring 76 from 94 deliveries, peppered with 11 limits.
Sidra was then involved in another crucial partnership for Pakistan when, in addition to Aliya Riaz, she compiled 68 points for the third wicket until it was sustained in the 43rd. She scored 33 of 34 deliveries with the help of five four.
After her resignation, Pakistan quickly lost another wicket in succession when their captain, Fatima Sana (five), became the next about the victim of Sekhukhune.
In the meantime, Sidra Amin was stuck and wore her bat all the way to the top score for Pakistan with an unbeaten 121 out of 150 deliveries, strewn with 12 four.
Khaka was the choice of Bowlers for South Africa when she took two wickets for 36 points in her nine overs, while Tumi Sekhukhune collected.
The eight-wicket victory helped South Africa to get a 1-0 lead in the Drie-Match series, with the second ODI planned to be played at the same location on Friday.
