Steve Martin’s favorite voice scene of his career is in the Pink Panther.
Martin recalled filming the 2006 comedy ahead of his 20th birthday on February 10.
“We aimed our film at a younger audience than the originals, and I’m proud that the film contains the favorite comedy scene I’ve ever done: ‘I’d like to buy a HAMMBERRRRGAU,’” he mimicked.
In the scene, Martin’s Inspector Clouseau practices his dialect prior to a trip to New York. He wants to tame his French accent and sound more American.
The coach tells him to master the phrase “I’d like to buy a hamburger.”
The Only murders in the building The actor subsequently claimed that making the film was a “delight.”
“I was shooting in Paris and working with great people on a creative set. There were crew lunches over tablecloths with carafes of wine (although I abstained) and I was honored to follow in the footsteps of my hero, Peter Sellers,” said Martin.
Director Shawn Levy stepped in and said fans are still asking him questions about the burger scene.
“To this day, 20 years later, people come up to me and say, ‘I’d like to buy a hamburger.’ That scene started when Steve Martin pitched me an idea over lunch one day,” Levy, 57, told the outlet.
“…A 30-second scene got significantly longer because it kept laughing. That was a scene that snuck up on us. And to this day, it’s more beloved than I could ever have imagined. It’s such a simple idea, but brilliantly executed by Steve and our actor who plays the dialect coach,” he said.
The Stranger things And Deadpool and Wolverine The director called himself the “luckiest young director ever” to be “invited on board by Steve Martin.”
