A letter Taylor Swift once wrote for Liam Payne has resurfaced, and the timing couldn’t feel more important.
Just as news broke that Zayn Malik has reportedly rejoined One Direction, a nearly decade-old note from the Eras Tour superstar began circulating widely on social media.
The letter, written on the occasion of Jingle Ball 2017, was addressed to Liam, who died in October 2024 at the age of 31.
“Liam, long time no see! I’m so excited for you, you’re crushing it out there,” Swift, who famously dated fellow member Harry Styles, praised Liam’s music journey. .
“I’m obsessed with Bedroom Floor. It’s so cool to see you from a distance, always cheering you on,” the post read.
The letter dates from 2017, the year he launched his solo career with debut hit Strip That Down, written in collaboration with Ed Sheeran, one of Swift’s old friends.
That year also saw him welcome his son Bear with Cheryl and perform at major events including the Capital Summertime Ball and several Jingle Ball shows.
The resurfaced letter has stirred new emotions among fans, as reports claim that Zayn has been re-listed as business director alongside Harry, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan for the band’s company, PPM Music Limited, a role he previously lost in 2016.
For many One Direction fans, the moment is bittersweet, as Liam has long been the most vocal supporter of a One Direction reunion.
While the group seems closer than ever to that possibility, progress only comes after his tragic passing.
