Teyana Taylor has opened up about her feelings after receiving her first Grammy and Golden Globe nominations.
For those who don’t know, the 35-year-old American singer-songwriter and actress signed her first recording contract at the age of 15 and has been working towards achieving her dreams in the world of entertainment.
However, after dropping her third studio LP The album, Taylor quit music because she felt “super undervalued as an artist.”
After her retirement, she shifted her focus to building her acting resume, starring in the comedy sequel Coming 2 America (2021) and the powerful drama One Thousand and One (2023).
Despite the announcement of retirement, the music called the Cool mom singer again and she released an album titled Escape room in August this year.
During a conversation with PEOPLE magazine, Taylor spoke about her return to music, saying, “I think what drew me back was that I came back on my terms. All I ever wanted was to feel appreciated, and I wanted to feel used. I didn’t want to be stuck or put in a box.”
After proving herself to her doubters, she is determined to make music and fall in love with it.
“I love to create and direct, so it was very healing for me to be able to come back to music in such a vulnerable way. There were a lot of different things blocking my journey or what was being written for me,” Taylor joked.
