The Masked Singer has officially crowned its season 14 champion, revealing Galaxy Girl’s identity as Ashlee Simpson.
The finale aired on April 1, with Simpson winning the Golden Mask trophy after impressing the judges with performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s Good 4 U and Pink’s Attempt.
Her identity was speculated upon prior to the reveal, especially after her sister, Jessica Simpson, appeared during the finale to provide a clue and referenced Ashlee’s debut album. Autobiography.
Simpson defeated a strong line-up in the final, with Phillip Phillips finishing second to Pugcasso. Kylie Cantrall came in third as Cat Witch, followed by Normani in fourth as Crane.
After the win, Simpson called the experience both exciting and nerve-wracking. She noted how contestants must remain performance-ready at all times due to the unpredictable eliminations.
“Yeah. So you have to make sure your makeup looks good under that mask because you don’t know what day you’re going to be out on. And you get really nervous. I’m like, ‘Okay, did I do it right? I don’t know.’ And that was kind of the exciting part,” she said People in an interview.
She added, “Every episode you go into the next one it was like, ‘I made it. Okay. How am I going to make this next one good?'”
She also said strict rules prevented her from interacting with her husband, Evan Ross, who also competed earlier this season.
“He was great. And it’s actually funny, we weren’t allowed to see each other at all. There are important lines, which was so interesting because you were like, ‘How was your performance?’ He killed it and he really had the moves. Stingray had the moves.”
The win marks another milestone in Simpson’s return to the spotlight following her recent Las Vegas residency. She has also hinted that new music is on the way and what her plans are for the future. “There will definitely be new music,” when asked whether an album or tour is on the way.
“I also want to dip my toes back into acting, and I would like to do some musical theater, but just to definitely keep going, performing and doing what I love to do,” she revealed.
Simpson will also be doing both Stagecoach and OUTLOUD Music Festival during WeHo Pride in Los Angeles.
