The Odysseya highly anticipated film from Christopher Nolan, has dropped its trailer, with Matt Damon helming the adaptation of Homer’s book of the same name.
The teaser offers a first look at the actor’s efforts alongside his troops on their journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War.
In addition to Matt, the trailer also features Anne Hathaway as his on-screen wife Penelope and Tom Holland playing his son. Telemachus.
Additionally, the soldiers brave both high tides and mythical creatures as they return to their homes.
While The Odyssey’s trailer is making waves on social media, this film has some unusual hype: it follows Christopher’s recent hit film Oppenheimer, which received critical acclaim.
Furthermore, the scope of the film, which is based on a Greek epic poem, has been enormous. A glimpse of this, given by the director: “We shot over two million feet of film,” he reveals of the 91-day shoot. And much of it took place on the ocean, where Odysseus sets sail with his battle-hardened men. “It’s pretty primal!”
He also has Empire magazine: “I’ve been working on it for the last four months. We have the cast playing the crew of Odysseus’ ship on the real waves, in the real places.”
“And yes, it is vast and terrifying, wondrous and benevolent, as circumstances change. We really wanted to capture how difficult those journeys would have been for people. And the leap of faith that was made into an uncharted, unmapped world,” he said in the previous interview.
The Odyssey will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.
