In a record-breaking performance, the Minnesota Timberwolves overcame a 13-point overtime deficit to defeat the Houston Rockets 110-108.
The stunning rally marks the biggest overtime comeback in the NBA since play-by-play recording began in the 1997-98 season.
The Timberwolves pulled off the historic comeback despite several challenges, including missing five of their top seven players, such as Ayo Dosunmu and Anthony Edwards.
Jaden McDaniels left with an injury, Rudy Gobert made a foul after foul and Naz Reid was ejected by official Scott Foster.
“They fought through a lot of adversity. We should have won that game in regulation. We deserved to win that game. We were the better team all night and we gave them a chance to steal the game from us, but we stole the game right back,” coach Chris Finch said.
When it comes to performance during the game, many players have put in commendable performances. Julius Randle, for example, scored 24 points and scored the go-ahead goal with 8.8 seconds left.
Kyle Anderson and Mike Conley provided stability for the veterans and defensive pressure that forced a critical 8-second foul on Houston. Donte DiVincenzo: Hit the clutch 3-pointer to tie the game on the final run.
This win was important for positioning in the Western Conference playoffs and keeping the Timberwolves within striking distance of the fourth seed.
According to Ruby Gobert: “I’m so proud that we didn’t quit. We had a lot of opportunities to get really frustrated tonight. For the most part, we were able to overcome that. That’s the blueprint for us. We want to win a championship, so we know there’s going to be adversity. We know it’s going to happen in a lot of ways.”
