Timothée Chalamet as Marty, a table tennis player Marty supreme, rages at the box office. Lately, the star has been giving interviews about how he prepared for the role and what happened during the filming.
But in a recent conversation, the actor revealed an incident during the shooting, which made him nervous.
It concerns a background actor, whom Timothée says he will not name, who had a scene with the Dune star.
“I won’t say who, but in that motel series there are a lot of non-actors… who I find very exciting to work with, but sometimes it takes multiple takes to really get something out of it.”
The anecdote he shares at the DGA Theater in New York leads to a tense moment, in which Timothée recalls trying to provoke the background actor to evoke strong emotions, which was a requirement for the scene.
“And I’m really in the guy’s face and I’m really trying to make him mad at me,” I said to Josh [Safdie, the movie’s director]he doesn’t get mad at me, he doesn’t get mad at me.”
But things took a turn when – after being provoked – he issued a threatening warning to Timothée. “I did another take and then the guy said, ‘I just spent thirty years in prison. You really don’t want to argue with me. You don’t want to see me angry.’
In response, the 30-year-old recalls going up to the director, Josh Safdie, and telling him, “I said to Josh, Holy s***, who you got in front of me, man?”
