Washington: President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday in which he stated that his plan to sell Tiktok’s American activities and global investors will meet the requirements in a 2024 law that says that the short video app will be banned unless the Chinese owners sell it.
The new American company is appreciated at around $ 14 billion, said Vice President JD Vance.
Trump has delayed the enforcement of the law until December 16 in the midst of efforts to get the American assets from Tiktok from the worldwide platform, to win American investors and to win approval from the Chinese government.
“There was some resistance on the Chinese side, but the fundamental thing we wanted to achieve is that we wanted to keep Tiktok, but we also wanted to ensure that we secured the data privacy of Americans as required by law,” said Vance.
Trump has credited Tiktok, which has 170 million American users, helping him to win re -election last year and has 15 million followers on his personal account. The White House also launched an official Tiktok account last month.
“This is being operated entirely in America,” said Trump.
