England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have unveiled their mega bids to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup as the biggest sporting event is set to take place in Britain.
Ellen White, the Lionesses’ leading goalscorer, called the bid ‘really special’.
“We felt it at the 2012 Olympics, that exposure, that amazing sense of belonging. The whole global fascination was very special. It was very special to see all the different countries, the cultures, the diversity and the inclusivity.
“The fact that it is a World Cup [means] it is global and all eyes will be on us and people will want to be part of it.” she added.
Under the proposed plan, 15 cities and 22 stadiums will take part in a tournament eight times larger than the 2022 Euro amount. New stadiums of Manchester United and Birmingham City are being taken into account.
16 of the stadiums are in England, 3 in Wales, two in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland.
According to Mark Bullingham, the Football Association’s chief executive: “Sixty-three million people live within two hours of a match venue we are proposing, so we think it will bring together the whole country and some of the most recognizable cities and stadiums we have.”
The organizing body has also decided to include some stadiums that have not yet been built.
According to an official statement, if built, the proposed sites will be among the best in the world in ten years.
During the selection process, the list of 22 stadiums will be reduced to 14 or 16 locations.
For the 2035 Women’s World Cup, the only bidders are the FA, the Irish FA, the Scottish FA and the FA of Wales.
The host selection for the 2031 and 2035 World Cups will be voted on on April 30, 2026 during the FIFA Congress in Vancouver.
