Three years after the global Barbenheimer frenzy, will Dunesday be as big? Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet want that.

Both Dune: part three And Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 18 this year, in a major theatrical showdown.

Timothee and Robert appeared on stage together in LA during a special screening of Chalamet’s A24 film Marty Supreme.

During the January 14 event, the Avengers star told the audience, “We both have movies opening on December 18th, and we decided to make this one up… We’re thinking about Dunesday.”

The audience laughed and Robert added, “We’ll see if we’re still friends by then.”

The two big-budget films are expected to boost each other at the box office by encouraging people to make double features.

That’s what Barbie And Oppenheimer pulled it off in the summer of 2023. Fans decided to head to the theaters to watch both films back to back. The films ultimately earned a whopping $2.5 billion worldwide, with Christopher Nolan’s film grossing 975 million and Greta Gerwig’s film making the rest.

The last one Avengers film, Endgameis still the second highest-grossing film of all time, with $2.8 billion at the worldwide box office. Dune: part two earned $715 million worldwide.
