Charles C. Stevenson, best known for playing bartender Smitty in the series Will & Gracedied at the age of 95.
The legendary actor’s son, Scott, confirmed his father’s death in a statement Variety. According to Scott, Charles breathed his last in Camarillo, California on January 19 due to natural causes.
“In his own words, his job was ‘marry people or bury people,'” he told the newspaper.
Scott went on to say, “As he told it, the panicked director would invariably come to him to beg him to find a way to fill in the unscripted space between “We are gathered here together” (where he would probably get his close-up) and the “amen” at the end of the scene (where he normally wouldn’t).
“Stevenson admitted he got pretty good at it,” the actor’s son concluded.
Throughout his decades-long career in the entertainment industry, Charles appeared in many TV series including Cheers, LA Law, Men in Black, Glee, Bunheads, And Dynasty.
However, the star rose to fame after starring in the sitcom in 1998 Will and Grace.
