The Sinner The star made history by receiving his first ever Academy Award in the Best Actor category for his role in the film on Sunday, March 15.

Jordan took a moment in his acceptance speech to shout out previous Black Hollywood actors who won the Oscars, including Will Smith. Jordan’s win made him the sixth black Oscar winner in line.

“I’m here because of the people who came before me: Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith and to be among those giants, among those greats, among my ancestors, among my boys,” Jordan raved about his fellow black actors.

On March 16, Smith took to his Instagram account to return the love to Jordan, who defeated Timothee Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke and Wagner Moura at the 2026 Academy Awards.

The Bad boys star posted a photo of Jordan holding his award and wrote it up. “CONGRATULATIONS, beloveds. Making history!”

The 57-year-old actor has been nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actor category for the films Ali, The Pursuit of Happiness and received the gilded statuette for King Richard in 2022.

However, the same year Smith won the Oscar, his onstage brawl with Chris Rock, who made fun of his wife Jada Smith, resulted in a decade-long ban for Smith from attending the ceremony.
