Zendaya is reportedly at the center of intense reactions as her new film The drama leaves the audience divided.
Directed by Kristoffer Borgli, the film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. The storyline includes a twist involving a school’s past shooting plan, which has sparked intense debate in the United States.
One of the most outspoken critics is Tom Mauser, whose son was killed in the Columbine High School massacre. He condemned the premise as “terrible.”
According to RadaronlineSources close to the production have revealed: “Zendaya is reeling in shock at the intensity of the response to the film’s themes, and feels like the conversation has gone beyond what the film actually portrays.”
Another insider added: “The intention was never to glorify violence, but to provoke an uncomfortable discussion about responsibility and consequences.”
It is pertinent to mention that Zendaya has also addressed the tone of the film, describing it as a mix of romance and drama meant to spark discussion.
An industry source told the outlet: “The response reflects a broader discomfort about the way Hollywood deals with trauma, and why stories like this can seem too close to reality for many viewers right now, especially in America, where these events remain painfully frequent and unresolved today.”
They added: “But there’s also a sense that this has been taken out of context – the film doesn’t celebrate anything, it interrogates it.”
Additionally, they revealed that Zendaya understands why people are “upset,” but she still believes that “the public needs to see the full picture before judging.”
“The conversation itself shows why telling these kinds of stories is important – even if it makes people deeply, deeply uncomfortable confronting brutal reality,” the source said.
