Zooey Deschanel revealed that her fiancé Jonathan Scott helped her parents build a fireproof home after it burned down during the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.
In a recent conversation with Peoplethe 45-year-old actress shared that her fiancé of two years, the Property Brothers star, “came to the rescue” after her parents lost their LA home
“We’re rebuilding my parents’ house. We’re rebuilding their house from non-flammable materials – it’s really cool to learn all that,” she said.
Zooey, who starred in Prime Video’s new rom-com Merv, said the house project is going to be a big work in the new year.
“We’re just getting started. It’s taking a while to get everything designed,” Zooey tells us. “It will take a while before everything is in order.”
Zooey’s parents’ home, where she grew up with her sister, burned to the ground after the Pacific Palisades wildfire spread to their home.
The New girl alum posted a touching tribute in memory of her childhood home in January.
“It wasn’t a mansion, but it was cozy and beautiful and unique and perfect for me. One of my friends growing up called it ‘The Church’ because the 15-foot ceilings with stained glass windows in the living room cast colorful shadows at the end of the day. And to me it was sacred, a sanctuary where we felt safest,” she wrote at the time.
Zooey then poured her heart out: “The family photos lining the hallways, the works of art, the piano I learned to play on, the wedding tableware, the furniture my great-great-grandfather built… the memories of generations past: they have all vanished into thin air.”
“I know we are not alone. Along with another beautiful LA neighborhood, Alta Dena, the streets of my childhood in Pacific Palisades have been all but erased as we knew them. So many people have lost so much,” she added.
