Jonas Brothers’ Mom, Denise, Opens Up About Serious ‘Health Anxiety’

Denise, the mother of Jonas Brothers band members Kevin, Nick and Joe Jonas, recently revealed that she recently suffered a stroke.

She shared the shocking health update in an upcoming episode of the series Received from my mother podcast.

“It was what you call a basal ganglia, which affected my cognitive thinking, my speech and reasoning,” she explained.

Denise went on to say, “When I’m tired or hungry, I can fumble with my words and not think of the right words. Sometimes I can’t remember if it’s this or that.”

Before her diagnosis, the mother of the Sucker singers admitted that she experienced a series of previous symptoms that led to her stroke.

“The symptoms I had were that my blood pressure was high. I had gone to three different doctors over the previous six months. I would wake up feeling like my arms were weird… at times I would have trouble with my speech,” she recalls.

Denise also woke up one morning with hiccups, which she has learned is “the most missed symptom” of stroke in women.

“You won’t hear about it, but when I Googled it, this was the first thing that came up,” she said. “When I got up to go to the toilet, I had a glass of water next to the sink. I tried to get a glass of water, but the movement didn’t happen. I told my hand, but my hand didn’t listen to my brain.”

“Even though I had health problems, I always say it was probably the best thing that happened to me,” said Denise Jonas, offering a unique perspective on life. “I feel like it was a gift from the Lord. I don’t think most people say that about anything, but it really made me quiet.”
