Peter Jackson does not direct the new Lord of the rings movies; however, he is working on Tintin.
A bombshell he dropped at Cannes, and the famed filmmaker says he’s writing the long-awaited sequel Adventures of Tintin.
‘I worked with Fran [Walsh, Jackson’s partner] to another Tintin script, I was writing it here in the hotel room,” he says.
While the screenplay is being worked on, Jackson says he will also direct the film based on the famous detective.
“It’s an actively real thing, and I return to the world of Tintin, and I really love it.”
Then there is also a guilt factor.
Jackson and Steven Spielberg made a pact over a decade ago: the latter would direct the first Tintin film, and the former would direct the second.
The Jaws director kept his promise; however, the brains behind it The Lord of the Rings couldn’t fulfill his.
“The agreement was that Steven would direct one and I would direct the other,” he says.
“Steven made his film, and then for fifteen years [later] I didn’t make mine. I feel very uncomfortable about that.”
Jackson’s Tintin announcement comes as he received an honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes.
