Brad Pitt has filed new paperwork in his ongoing legal dispute with ex-wife Angelina Jolie, asking a judge to require her to hand over a series of private emails related to the sale of her stake in their former French winery, Château Miraval.
The actors have been involved in a legal battle over the property since February 2022.
In the latest application, obtained by Page sixPitt requested access to Jolie’s email exchanges with her business manager Terry Bird, British publicists Arminka Helic and Chloe Dalton, and two financial advisors.
Pitt pointed to Jolie’s earlier statement, in which she acknowledged that she spoke regularly with Bird about many areas of her work life — including legal matters.
He argued that these communications should be available for discovery, describing them as “brainstorming sessions between non-attorneys.”
According to the filing, he claimed that even if these conversations occurred alongside legal guidance, “the fact that these brainstorming sessions may have followed or preceded counsel’s advice on the same general topic or a related topic does not protect them from discovery.”
So far, Pitt claims Jolie has only passed on one internal email referencing the sale at the center of their dispute.
Pitt argued that the missing communications could include Bird’s discussions about the terms of Jolie’s sale of her Miraval stake to the Stoli parties, calling it “the most significant transaction at issue in this litigation.”
Pitt also asked the court to deny Jolie’s request to pay her $33,000 in attorneys’ fees.
Jolie’s team has argued that because she warned him to withdraw his earlier motion, he should be responsible for the legal costs associated with opposing the motion.
In her Oct. 9 filing, her attorneys said she had repeatedly urged Pitt to withdraw the request and noted that she had made clear she would seek fees if the motion was denied.
They said she was “forced” to incur significant costs to respond.
Jolie’s lawyer, Paul Murphy, backtracked on Pitt’s latest demand and stated in response Page six that the actor was trying to access secure conversations.
He said:[This] reaffirms that this lawsuit is the manifestation of Mr. Pitt’s years-long efforts to harass and control Angelina.
Pitt initially took legal action after Jolie sold her stake in Château Miraval to the Stoli Group’s wine division.
He has argued that she made the deal without the consent they had previously agreed to. Jolie has insisted she didn’t need his approval.
