Liam Payne’s inquest was postponed as the coroner requested more evidence and eyewitness accounts before proceeding with the case.
The 31-year-old singer, who rose to fame with One Direction, died in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
During a brief hearing at Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court, senior coroner Crispin Butler said there were still “investigations ongoing in Argentina into the circumstances surrounding Liam’s death.”
He explained that full reports and witness statements were needed before the final investigation could take place.
A post-mortem report revealed that the late music icon died of multiple injuries and “internal and external bleeding” after falling from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel.
However, the next revision is scheduled for May 7, 2026.
The court also heard that some papers, including the autopsy report and police findings from Argentina, have already been shared with British authorities.
These documents will be translated before the coroner speaks to Liam’s family.
Officials in Argentina have dropped charges against three of the five people under investigation in connection with the case.
Mr Butler said the final inquest would focus on the key questions and that is ‘who Liam was, how he died and what exactly happened that night’.
For those unfamiliar, Liam, who grew up in Wolverhampton, launched his solo career in 2016 that touched millions of fans around the world.
