Hugh Jackman has opened up about a surreal musical moment he will never forget.

In a new confessional with PEOPLE Magazinethe actor reflected on the unique experience, which took place prior to the premiere of his latest film, Song sung blue.

Jackman recalled the unexpected invitation and admitted there was only one response when the music icon suggested they broadcast karaoke tunes.

“So if you go to Neil’s for dinner and he says, ‘Do you want to do karaoke?’ 100% you say yes,” Jackman joked.

The WolverineThe star also revealed that there are some hard and fast rules for moments like this, especially when there’s a pop culture legend on the guest list.

“You make sure your phone is charged and someone videotapes it,” he added.

In the movie, Song sung bluethe 57-year-old actor stars as Mike Sardina, one half of the Neil Diamond tribute duo Lightning & Thunder. This role clearly deepened Hugh’s bond with the singer’s music.

Earlier this month, Jackman and his co-star surprised fans with an impromptu performance at the Old Mates Pub in New York City, shortly after attending the 2025 show. Gotham Awards.

The duo had the crowd dancing and singing along as they performed three of Diamond’s most beloved hits: Forever in blue jeans, Crispy Granola Suite And Dear Caroline.

At one point, Jackman even climbed onto the bar, rallying the crowd and urging everyone to “raise the roof.”
