No exaggeration, but Mariah Carey’s song Everything I want for Christmas has become a permanent part of the holidays.
Her record-breaking song, which she released in 1994, has extended its stay on the Billboard Hot 100.
It has now been on the chart for 22 weeks, known for assessing the impact of the music. Formerly Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road held the record with Shaboozey’s A bar song. However, Mariah broke the record by spending the most weeks on the chart.
In other news, the pop icon weighed in on statements she made 22 years ago that have since become a meme.
The 56-year-old was asked about Jennifer Lopez, if she knew her. Her response was, “I don’t know her.”
Decades later, Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen asked Mariah the same question in 2016.
“Apparently I’m forgetful,” she told the host, adding that she and J. Lo have met, but does that mean they know each other?
“Like what am I supposed to say? I’m not going to put on something like, ‘Oh, we’re all Hollywood and let’s all pretend we’re best friends because we’re in that country.’ It is not an insult to anyone,” the musician added.
“It wasn’t that I don’t know who she is, of course I do. That’s not the question,” Mariah concluded.
