How the body ‘suffers’ from back pain and a simple way to remedy it

When it comes to back pain, we should start with a statistic that at the very least indicates that 80% of adults have experienced it, are currently experiencing it, or will experience it at some point in their lives.

However, according to physiotherapist and author Juanma Ortega – an expert in musculoskeletal health and non-surgical spinal injury recovery – many existing treatments only address the symptoms while neglecting the cause.

As a physiotherapist, he relieves his patients from pain by tackling the specific cause of their back problems, with the aim of finding a solution that ensures that their discomfort never returns.

Expressing his opinion on back pain, he said: “In my opinion, based on the cases I see in the clinic every day, there are several major causes.”

“The first is that today’s jobs are becoming increasingly specialized and repetitive; the body suffers when it performs the exact same movements for hours on end,” the physio explained.

Ortega continued: “This inevitably overloads certain tissues while neglecting others, leading to muscle stiffness and consequently limited joint mobility – in some cases resulting in physical ‘blocks’.”

“I also believe that the social concept of exercising ‘to stay healthy’ is somewhat misplaced. For example, someone who spends eight hours in the office and plays padel three times a week, for example, is often considered active and health-conscious. But over time, there is a good chance that this same person will develop injuries,” he added.

Furthermore, he stated: “Exercise is excellent, but it must be supported by at least three days of basic physical conditioning. This should focus on strength and muscle elasticity, specifically tailored to counteract any sedentary working postures and the physical demands of whatever active hobby they pursue.”

“This is why statistics show that approximately 80% of the population will suffer from back pain or serious spinal injuries during their lifetime. If this figure is so high, it suggests that as a society we are clearly doing something wrong when it comes to physical self-care,” concluded Juanma Ortega.
