Mandy Moore has spoken out about her former marriage to ex-husband Ryan Adams.
She made the comments on her podcast That Was Us on a May 19 episode, saying her current husband, Taylor Goldsmith, followed a traditional step in proposing. She said he asked her father for permission before getting married.
She noted that Adams did not do this when they married. Moore said, “I was engaged before, but that person didn’t ask my dad.”
She added that her father was touched by Goldsmith’s approach. She said her father is also clumsy and told Goldsmith not to ask permission.
Moore married Ryan Adams in 2009, when she was 24. They separated in 2015 and divorced in 2016.
In previous interviews, Moore has spoken in more detail about her first marriage. She has said that the relationship affected her music career and personal life.
She previously said Adams was controlling and discouraging during their marriage. She also said she felt isolated during that period of her life.
Adams has denied her allegations through his legal representative. Moore has said she sees that part of her life differently now.
She is currently married to Taylor Goldsmith and has children. She said she feels like she is in a very different place in her life now.
She added that, looking back, the past relationship seems distant and difficult to understand from her current perspective.
