Jessica Simpson reflects on 8 years of sobriety: ‘Purpose for my life’




Jessica Simpson is celebrating a major milestone and looking ahead with renewed purpose.

The singer marked eight years of sobriety on November 2 and shared a post about how cutting alcohol out of her life reshaped her path.

“Eight years ago today, I made the choice to confront, confess, and let go of the self-sabotaging parts of my life that I chose to live,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Making that decision allowed me to live fully in pursuing God’s purpose for my life.”

Simpson, 45, who shares Maxwell, 13, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 6, with her estranged husband Eric Johnson, reflected on how sobriety changed her outlook.

She said alcohol once “silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams, and haunted my circulating fear of complacency.”

Now she explained: “Today I am lucid. Today I am driven by faith. Both fear and faith are something we feel and may not see, I am so glad I chose faith over fear.”

She added: “It wasn’t in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender.”

This new phase comes at a time of personal transition. Simpson confirmed her divorce from Johnson earlier this year and is preparing for her return to acting. She will appear in the upcoming legal drama Everything is fair alongside Kim Kardashian, Niecy Nash and Sarah Paulson.

She said at the premiere in Los Angeles in October E! News“I feel like I’m being born again at 45. It’s a resurrection of all the entertainment for me and it’s so much fun.”

Simpson also returns to music.

After retiring to focus on motherhood and her fashion brand, she released her EP Nashville Canyon: Part 1 this year and has concerts planned throughout 2025.

“There was a 15-year hiatus and it felt very long,” she said, explaining that raising her children came first during that time.

With new projects in the pipeline, Simpson is excited to keep creating. Speaking of Everything is fairshe said, “It was a great experience. I’m excited to do it again.”
