The FBI has returned several valuables stolen from Keanu Reeves’ Los Angeles home during a 2023 jewelry heist.
The agency confirmed the recovery in a news release issued Tuesday, which noted that Reeves, 61, had sent a handwritten letter expressing his appreciation.
“It is with deep gratitude and appreciation that I write this letter,” Reeves began, before thanking the agencies involved in the investigation and adding: “Thank you very much for all your commitment, dedication, professionalism and cross-border cooperation. My warmest regards, Keanu.”
Chilean authorities previously announced on July 29 that they would hand over the recovered property, including six luxury watches.
Among them was an engraved Rolex Submariner valued at more than $9,500, adding to a total estimated value of $125,000, according to the Chilean theft investigation team.
Chilean prosecutors said Reeves identified the watches as the same ones taken from his home in December 2023. CNN had reported that the items resurfaced in eastern Santiago in December 2024, when authorities arrested a suspect linked to a series of “violent robberies.”
Akil Davis, deputy director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, emphasized the teamwork behind the recovery.
“This case is a perfect example of the excellent international cooperation we enjoy with our Chilean counterparts and our local partners at the Los Angeles Police Department,” he said.
The FBI noted that the burglary was linked to “South American theft groups,” described as “criminal organizations from South American countries that travel to the United States and other countries to commit theft.” The agency said it is “actively investigating multiple SATG-related crimes.”
Reeves met with FBI personnel and a Chilean PDI officer in New York in August to reclaim the items. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said the case shows that “crime today knows no bounds,” adding that the recovery shows that organized theft groups “will be pursued wherever they operate.”
