Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both face possible disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix as each competitor chases the coveted 2025 F1 title race.
The news came as Max Verstappen won the Grand Prix, while Norris finished the race second and Piastri fourth. As a result, Norris has taken the lead with a 30-point lead.
The reason behind the disqualification is due to technical violations, namely excessive plank wear on both McLaren cars.
FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer has fixed the rear skid block of both cars as it was measured to be less than the minimum required thickness of 9mm specified in Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations.
According to stewards, “the thickness of the plank structure was less than the minimum permitted thickness.”
The document read: “The rear skids were re-measured in the presence of the Stewards and the three McLaren representatives, and those measurements confirmed that the skids did not comply with regulations.”
Following the news of the disqualification, race winner Verstappen is the biggest beneficiary regarding the 2025 Drivers’ Championship.
The Red Bull driver is now equal to Oscar Piastri, both with 366 points. Norris remains in the lead with 390 points, a 24-point lead in the standings.
The results of the 2025 title will be determined over the next two weekends, with 58 points remaining from two Grand Prix and one sprint.
