Tom Hiddleston talks about his personal growth and the lessons he has learned over the years.
In a recent conversation with British GQ, The 44-year-old actor reflected on how old patterns kept him from stardom and how changing his mindset led him to where he is today.
“When I was a young man, I always did what I was told. I got into all kinds of knots, both personally and professionally,” he recalls.
The Loki star revealed that years before his Golden Globe-winning role, he encountered a turning point in his life The Night Manager When he finally decided to take control of his life, “I was like, Tom, get a grip, move toward what interests and motivates you. Get rid of people who don’t make you feel good, embarrass you, or make you do things you don’t want to do. Try not to be such a people pleaser and see where you end up.”
After being rejected from auditions several times, he faced difficult emotions. He noted: “The confrontation was truly challenging and painful, but transformative.”
Hiddlestone further shared how he adapted to fame in the age of social media: “I’m somehow very grateful for that research because it generated in me a real self-discipline and rigor to [accept that] Everyone is entitled to their opinion,” he said.
The actor added, “You really have to be disciplined about your own opinions of yourself… That will keep you safe in the choppy waters.”
