Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones marked another year of life and love together by celebrating their shared birthday, but one sentence of Douglas left fans a double take.
The old couple, both born on 25 September, only 25 years apart, exchanged sweet tribute on social media.
Douglas, now 81, posted a photo of himself and Zeta-Jones on the golf course, where they recently participated in the Celebrity Ryder Cup.
In addition to the Snap, he wrote: “By my birthday sister – what a pleasure of another year with you! Congratulations on your spectacular game at the Celebrity Ryder Cup. Happy birthday for the love of my life @catherinezetajones.”
While he is sincere, the term ‘birthday sister’ eyebrows raised in the reactions.
“That is his wife, not his sister, what does he mean by birthday sister?” A fan wrote, following the confusion of many others.
Another chimed in: “Have you just called your wife sister ?? or am I stumbling?”
The playful expression was clearly meant to emphasize their shared birthday, but it still led for a lively response online.
Zeta-Jones, who turned 56, kept her own message easier but just as loving.
“Happy birthday Michael! Sharing this special day with you is once in a lifetime!,” She wrote, making her clear how special it is to share the date with her husband.
Their daughter, Carys, 22, participated in the family celebration with a moving tribute.
She posted a photo of Douglas with both her and Zeta-Jones and wrote: “25 September, Happy Birthday Mama and Dadda !! Your love for life, love, learning, art … There are no words to describe my gratitude and admiration.”
Douglas and Zeta-Jones have been married since November 2000 and their families have Caryys and the 25-year-old son Dylan.
Douglas is also the father of the 46-year-old Cameron, from his previous marriage to Diandra Luker.
Apart from the confusion, the joint birthday of the couple turned into a celebration of love, family and a little humor, proof that Douglas and Zeta-Jones together still know how to keep things light after more than two decades.
