Jack Hughes delivered a standout performance as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Washington Capitals 7-3 in their matchup on Thursday night.
Jack Hughes scored twice and added three assists in a five-point night, leading the Devils’ offense in a dominant win.
His first goal came at 9:10 of the second period with a wrist shot assisted by Jesper Bratt and Johnathan Kovacevic. He struck again 8:10 into the third period, again set up by Bratt along with Connor Brown.
Hughes now has 24 goals and 44 assists this season.
Dawson Mercer also scored twice for New Jersey, while Bratt, Dougie Hamilton and Cody Glass added more goals to round out the scoring.
For the Capitals, Tom Wilson, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Cole Hutson each scored, but Washington struggled to contain the Devils’ offense all game.
Goaltender Jake Allen made 29 saves to secure the victory for New Jersey. On the other end, Logan Thompson stopped 23 shots for Washington.
