Amber Riley recently opened up about why she’s not prepared to take the Braoadway stage.
A post on Threads claimed that New York theater actors are “ravenous like the Marines,” prompting one user to write, “It can’t be sustainable or healthy!”
Riley captioned the post and also expressed her thoughts, writing, “It’s not. That’s why when people bother me about it, I say if the culture changes, maybe I will.”
“But right now, it’s absolutely not possible to ask people to sing eight shows a week at the top of their range without proper support or compensation,” noted the 40-year-old American actress and singer-songwriter.
She went on to say that “you can get all the training in the world no matter what I do and you can STILL get injured.”
“It’s not sustainable or healthy. Any ENT doctor will tell you that,” the Glee star concluded.
It is pertinent to mention that Riley has not yet performed on Broadway, but being on stage is now a new experience for her as she performed in the London revival of Dream girls.
Her top performance earned her an Oliver Award, considered the British version of a Tony.
Remarkably, cheerfulness starred Riley as Mercedes Jones and it felt like a show, even though it was a television series.
Talk to PEOPLE magazine about the show in March 2024, she reflected on the preparations, especially the intense amount of practice they did for cheerfulness.
“With that good old Glee sleep training, you better know how to function at four o’clock,” Amber Riley said at the time.
