Three decades after “Ghostbusters” actor Rick Moranis starred in “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves,” the actor and comedian returns for a big-screen role.
The Small horror shop actor reprises his Dark Helmet role in the sequel to Mel Brooks’ 1987 sci-fi parody Space ballsas the first look of the upcoming film was presented at CinemaCon on Wednesday by Amazon MGM.
The upcoming film marks Rick’s first live-action role in 30 years as the commander of Spaceball One, the main antagonist in the 1987 war effort. Space balls.
In the teaser shown during the event, Rick played his character, hiding his face in the iconic Dark Helmet mask.
In one of the trailer’s notable scenes, Rick stood at a urinal as a towering Na’vi from Avatar walked up next to him.
With a seemingly shocked expression on his face, Rick said, “I see you,” referencing the famous line from James Cameron’s franchise.
Mel Brook, the creator and co-writer of the 1987 cult classic, also confirmed the title of the upcoming sequel in a pre-recorded message. The official title of the film is Space balls: the new one.
Rick was also joined on stage at CinemaCon by original cast members Bill Pullman and Daphne Zuniga. Lewis Pullman was also present as a new addition for the sequel.
A summary of the original Space balls Through IMDb reads: “Planet Spaceball, led by President Skroob (Mel Brooks), has wasted all its air. Skroob plans to steal air from their peaceful neighboring planet Druidia by kidnapping King Roland’s (Dick Van Patten) daughter, Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga), … Skroob sends Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) to complete this task with Spaceball One, an impossibly large ship piloted by Colonel Sandurz (George). For those unfamiliar, Rick retired from on-screen roles following the death of his wife, Ann Belskey, who died of cancer in 1991.
Space balls: the new one will be released in theaters on April 23, 2027.
