Dick Parry, a saxophonist who played with Pink Floyd on some of his biggest hits, has died aged 83.
On Friday, May 22, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour announced the news of Parry’s death via X (formerly Twitter), writing: “My dear friend Dick Parry passed away this morning.”
He said: “I’ve been playing in bands with Dick on saxophone since I was 17, including Pink Floyd.”
“His feel and tone make his saxophone playing unmistakable, a signature of immense beauty known to millions and which is such a big part of songs like ‘Shine on You Crazy Diamond,’ ‘Wish You Were Here,’ ‘Us and Them’ and ‘Money.’”
“He played in the last band I had, including Rick Wright for the On an Island Tour and on Live 8 with Pink Floyd,” Gilmour concluded.
It is striking that the 80-year-old English musician has not revealed what took the life of Dick Parry.
It is pertinent to mention that Gilmour, who shared a carousel of photos with Parry, has a photo of them on stage at the Victoria Cinema in Cambridge in 1963.
