Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have had to deal with difficult times in their almost two decades of marriage, long before the news about their recent divorce.
More than a year earlier, Urban openly thought about how his earlier struggles with addiction almost derailed their relationship in the earliest days.
Speaking during the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024, while in honor of Kidman, Urban remembered: “We were married in June 2006 and barely four months after our marriage, my addictions … which I really had not done anything about, our marriage blew with Smitteens.”
He explained that the introduction of a three -month rehabilitation program was not sure that they would survive or their marriage.
“I had no idea what would happen to us … and if you want to see what love in action really looks, give that a swirl,” he said.
“Nic pushed through every negative voice, I am sure that even some of herself and she has chosen love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”
While Urban once spoke frankly about the power of Kidman during that challenging chapter, he was much more reserved earlier this year when he was asked about their relationship.
During an interview on Australian Radio Station Mix 102.3s Hayley & Max in the morningThe hosts expressed Kidman’s 2024 romantic comedy A family affairin which she played opposite Zac Efron.
“What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful woman with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron with these beautiful love scenes on TV and radio?” Co-host Max Burford asked.
Moments later, Urban abruptly dropped out the zoom call.
“He was disconnected from Zoom,” said an employee in the air, adding that it seemed that the Urban team had ended the call to prevent the question.
Urban, 57, and Kidman, 58, share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
