Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi firmly rejected the recent Indian medialaims on Wednesday and said that he did not apologize for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with regard to the controversy of the Asia Cup Trophy Presentation.
Describing these claims as ‘manufactured, nonsense and cheap propaganda’, Naqvi, who also leads the Pakistan Cricket Board, emphasized that the Indian media chooses to spread wrong information instead of presenting the truth.
“This manufactured nonsense is nothing but cheap propaganda, only aimed at mislead their own people,” he posted on X.
“I did nothing wrong and I never apologized to the BCCI, nor will I never do that,” added the ACC chairman.
He also took a jibe about the “persistent politicization” of cricket in India and said, “Unfortunately, India continues to drag politics to cricket and damage the spirit of the game.”
Naqvi clarified that he was willing to transfer the trophy on the last day and even today.
“I was ready to transfer the trophy that day and I am still ready now. If they are [India] Want it really [trophy]They are welcome to come to the ACC office and to collect it from me, “he concluded.
The trophy row followed a series of controversies in which the Indian team was involved during the Asia Cup – from players who closed hands to refuse to receive the Naqvi trophy.
During a routine ACC meeting in Dubai on Tuesday, the ACCCi Vice President Rajeev Shukla’s repeated requirements rejected the ASIA Cup 2025 trophy, and claimed that the silverware should be collected personally by the Indian skipper, the sources told Geo News.
Naqvi replied that the issue was not part of the agenda of the meeting. After further insistence, he noted that if the Indian team wanted the trophy, the captain would have to visit the ACC office personally to receive it.
No decision has been made yet whether the trophy will be transferred to the Indian side.
According to sources in the vicinity of regional cricket bodies, BCCI officials – who virtually attended the meeting – responded strongly to Naqvi’s position and, instead, demanded that the trophy is transferred to the International Cricket Council (ICC) headquarters.
Allegedly, other ACC members tried to harm the tensions and urge Indian officials to show restraint. The BCCI delegation, however, abruptly left the meeting and cut its digital feed.
