Jeremy Renner shared a deep personal milestone with his daughter, Ava on the A feeling of home 10th birthday gala on October 4 in West Hollywood.
The 54-year-old actor opened up for PEOPLE about how his 12-year-old daughter became part of the audio book version of his memoirs, My next breathing.
The book reflects on his almost fatal snow plow accident in 2023 and has written and told a genuine essay by Ava.
Renner admitted that her involvement came naturally.
“She inserted herself in that scenario by writing the essay in the thing early. So I asked her, at the end of writing the book, if I could post her essay at the start of the book,” he explained.
What he did not expect, he said, was that she would take it too.
“I completely forgot the idea that she should also make the story about it. So I was just remembered and so proud of how far we have come as a family, how far we got as a father and daughter.”
The actor, who protects his child’s privacy, also spoke about why he often places an emoji about Ava’s face when posting on social media.
“I have to protect my girl,” Renner said, adding that while he keeps her out of the spotlight, he “is just very proud of her and how far she got.”
Renner joined the gala with his sister, Kym Renner, where the brothers and sisters were honored for their philanthropic efforts via the Rentervation Foundation.
This is not the first time that rider has not shared how meaningful the words of Ava have been to his recovery.
In July, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel LiveHe remembered how her essay marked a turning point after his accident.
For a school assignment, AVA had written about the moment she felt most proud – the day her father first picked her up from school after his long recovery.
“It sounds like nothing, but if it is placed after the accident, you know. I wanted to create something very special for her, a milestone in my recovery,” he explained.
“It took me about an hour and a half to get in the car. I literally stunt down the stairs and everything.”
Renner said the moment meant so much to him as with his daughter.
“It was something that I had to do. I had to leave the house. I had to show her that I really recovered in a very big way,” he shared.
“And her writing that essay is just a reminder that it was just as important to me [as] It was for her [in] Show her that her father is getting better. And it’s because of her that I am better. “
Renner, who shares AVA with ex Sonni Pacheco, welcomed his daughter in March 2013. For him, her presence in both his recovery and now his memoirs and a reminder of how far they have come together.
