Taylor Swift just sent fans into a frenzy after they reacted to AJ McLean’s mashup of her new song.
During the weekend the The life of a showgirl hitmaker sparked excitement about a possible collaboration with the Backstreet Boys star after sharing a Lydia Getachew (lydgiggs) remix of the pop megastar’s latest hit Elizabeth Taylor.
In a clip posted Sunday, McLean sang Swift’s lyrics to the beat of the boy band’s classic Everyone (Backstreet is back).
“Come on, now you know one of us had to do that!” he captioned the post and tagged Swift.
Swift quickly noticed and said, “OH HI AJ OH MY GOD,” which immediately fueled fans’ theories about a future collaboration.
“@taylorswift is really collaborating on this!! The millennial swifts will definitely die with this gold pop mashup!” one fan pleaded. Another added: “One step closer to this collaboration.”
McLean’s video arrives just weeks after Swift released her twelfth studio album, which features songs like Opal, The fate of Opheliaand of course Elizabeth Taylor. The multi-Grammy winner, 35, has described the song as a reflection on fame “through the lens of cosplaying the life of Elizabeth Taylor.”
Meanwhile, McLean, 47, is preparing to drop his EP Hello, my name is Alex on November 27.
